<p>The latest version of this plugin/standalone application adds Creative Cloud compatibility and the ability to create multicolored images.</p><p>Just what is an airbrush, anyway? Invented in the 19th century, the devices as we know them today are small, air-powered tools that spray ink, dye and, more commonly, paint. In the hands of a professional they're capable of detailed work and were commonly used for photo retouching in the pre-digital age. They remain a popular tool for artists, such as H.R. Giger.</p><p>Somewhat surprisingly, AirBrush does not in fact let users draw and create airbrush-like illustrations. Instead, it simply transforms entire images, giving them a somewhat "airbrushy" look. While in the initial release the final images had limited color possibilities, version 2 adds the ability to generate results using the colors of the original image. To help get you going there are now 55 effect presets. And the plugin now works with Photoshop CC.</p><p>It's hard to say whether this initiative is really that noteworthy, since for $59.99 you can get Corel Painter Essentials, which not only works with images but also lets you draw from scratch with airbrush and other natural-media tools. Essentials just works as a standalone application, however, so if you need a Photoshop plugin then AirBrush is the way to go.
