
<p>Windows 8 certainly wasn't perfect but we quickly got on with it once we'd sidelined the full-screen apps. Now though there's Microsoft Windows 8.1, it brings the Start button back, though only as a sop really as the fullscreen Start menu is still in place. More importantly, numerous other irritations have been ironed out and the apps are much improved.</p><p>The Ricoh Theta is a genuinely groundbreaking device. This slim stick contains two fish-eye lenses that fire in tandem to create a 360-degree panorama in an instant. You can then scroll around the image on your smartphone and share them online. It's far more than a novelty and we'd be surprised if it didn't take off.</p><p>Streaming media content to your TV has gone from being a techy niche to a mainstream smash. If your TV is lagging behind then grab a Roku 3 to bring it up-to-date. The range of online services is good, though 4OD and LoveFilm are missing. Its interface is excellent and we love its headphone output on the remote.</p><p>The Pentax K-50 takes on the big guns at Canon and Nikon and comes out as a genuine alternative. You simply don't get dual-control dials and weather-sealing for 600 from either of its competitors. It also has a fantastic viewfinder and takes great-looking shots.
