
<p>There's another way to write the time-worn expression "old school": old's cool.</p><p>I know this because I own a T-shirt from a second-hand record store with the alternate version printed on the front. It's a rather optimistic sentiment in my case no amount of ageing has or will ever make me cool but I'm sure I must have some friends who could wear it, and people encountering them would think, Right on man! Old is cool!</p><p>It's the precise sentiment Nikon has tried to evoke with its new Df camera, a very modern digital SLR wrapped in the body of an old-school film SLR. In the Df, old-school is cool again.</p><p>Unfortunately, it's not just cool but also a good deal bigger and a little heavier than it could be; slow and ornery at times and a little hard to handle. Come to think of it, my old, cool friends are all of those things too.
