
<p>CANON CITY Local author Davalynn Spencer will sign copies of her latest novel, "The Cowboy Takes a Wife," which is the first of a three-book series due to be released this year.</p><p>The book is set in 1860s Canon City and focuses on the budding romance between Annie Whitaker and drifter Caleb Hutton as the city is being founded.</p><p>The second book, which should be available in May, involves the Royal Gorge railroad war of the late 1870s. The third, set for an August release, mentions Canon City's dinosaur digs and the infamous Bone Wars.</p><p>"The Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center ladies were a great help to me in collecting historical tidbits about these time periods," Spencer said.</p><p><a href="http://www.chieftain.com/entertainment/2214288-119/photos-book-canon-chieftain">Keep reading...</a></p>
