The company has always made a point of equipping its consumer-oriented cameras with some features that the bigger manufacturers reserve for higher-end models, while keeping prices a cut below their rivals.

This year's new entry-level DSLR brings back everything that makes the Pentax system great for hobbyist photographers, now at a lower price. The Pentax K-50 (MSRP $699.95) is essentially unchanged from its predecessor, the K-30, but Pentax somehow managed to cut the price by $150. Your $700 still nabs excellent image quality, a sturdy and weather-resistant build, as well as a refined control scheme that should give any aspiring photographer plenty of room to grow.

The most significant change to (and noticeable feature of) the K-50 is the customizable appearance. You can order the camera in a dazzling array of 120 custom color combinations for no extra cost. Though you would have to wait four to six weeks for your customized camera to arrive from Japan, you will get the coolness factor of shooting with a yellow-and-lilac DSLR (or whatever combination strikes your fancy).
