Book lovers in Seymour and Kodak will once again be able to pick up books at their libraries on Wednesdays, at least for a limited time.

The Sevier County Public Library System announced Monday that it will reinstate Wednesday hours at the library branches, after a vote by its board of trustees. They'll be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on a trial basis until Dec. 31; by then the board will announce whether they will return permanently.

The two branch libraries were reduced to operating four days a week when SCPLS opened the King Family Library in 2010.

Spokesperson Robin Cogdill said the schedules were reduced in part because of the increased need for personnel at the main branch, as it moved from the older, smaller library to the new, three-story King Family Library, but also because the library system has seen considerable turnover in recent years. With the staff constraints at the time, the system couldn't staff the branches with more than one employee on Wednesday, and the board of trustees felt it was a risk to employees and security to have just one person working alone, she said.
