A leaked image has purportedly offered a glimpse at a device Samsung isn't showing off at the Mobile World Congress event this month: the Samsung NX Mini compact-system camera.

According to a leak from an unnamed source provided to fan-site NXRumours, the Samsung NX Mini features a 1in, 20-megapixel sensor and an ultra-slim body - despite the presence of a flip-up 3in screen at the rear which can be rotated through 180 degrees for self-portrait shooting.

The camera is expected to be launching with a pair of compact interchangeable lenses, a 9mm fixed-distance pancake lens and a 9-27mm telephoto zoom lens. Additional lenses would likely become available shortly after launch. Internally, the NX Mini will likely include an image processing engine powerful enough to capture 22 full-resolution frames per second onto a micro-SD card, while a built-in flash provides illumination in dark or fast-action scenes. Judging by the leaked image, however, the camera lacks a hot-shoe connector for an off-body flash. With no sense of scale, it's also difficult to tell just how small it will be - currently the smallest CSC we've seen is the Panasonic DMC-GM1, so it will be interesting to see whether Samsung is aiming to go smaller.

Samsung hasn't commented on the leak, but the camera is expected to be launching within the next month and will sit towards the entry-level end of the company's line-up - although its interchangeable lens system, compact body and high-resolution sensor means it will be priced considerably above fixed-lens point-and-shoot rivals.

Read also:

Is Samsung about to launch a tiny mirrorless camera? (TechRadar UK)

Explore: 13 additional articles.
